TPR means Total Physical Response and it is absolutely useful in learning a second language.

We exactly did an example like that in the Workshop. We just listened to the instructions of Silvia (native Spanish speaker) and acted it out. The interesting thing was that it worked really good without knowing any words before in Spanish.
This example points out the characteristics of classical TPR:
> use of imperative form
> every word is attached to a physical action - becomes more visual
> no translation - that means they have to think in the target language
> listening befor speaking
> students don't speak in the beginning
> action and tangibility make learning easy, fun and clear
> stressfree learning
> using more senses
> for all ages
Have you already experienced a lesson like that and how was it? If not, do you think that is an effective way learning a second language?

wow, this is incredible. I didn't have lessons anything like this. I feel it must have a huge impact on students. Especially young students. I'd be happy to hear more about further tryouts with simmilar methods. I'm just overwelmed.
AntwortenLöschenno, in my primary school I haven't experienced a lesson like this. but I have already teached lessons with TPR. I think it is a good way to theach foreign languages and it's very motivated for the childern.
AntwortenLöschenI think this kind of lesson is just interesting for adults and just for fun. I don´t think that you can work with this lessons for an important language of you. It is nice to explore a new language in a short time. After this lesson I had a overview about some important rules of the language but this is too less for the future.
AntwortenLöschenI have never ever had a lesson using this method. However I think it is a much better way to learn languages than just using a textbook. I believe it is more important to learn a language and how to communicate in spoken language before learning how to write it. This method could be an excellent way to introduce new topics and new words however it needs to be used in combination of other teaching methods.
